I loved painting these pears with their beautiful tones and colours. Using watercolours for this effect takes many hours as there are over 35 layers of translucent paint that subtly build to produce the realistic flesh tones. Also, there is a specific paint by Daniel Smith used in this piece that is called Amethyst Genuine that uses the natural pigment minerals of crushed amethyst. This produces a slight sparkle across the work from the genuine amethyst crystals that are shining through the paint, which is a really lovely effect.
I have included a video below that I posted on social media, it shows the effect as it’s very difficult to see in photographs.
I only use the highest quality artist materials within all of my work and always heavyweight, acid free watercolour paper, ensuring your painting will remain vibrant for years to come.
